Dress

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Thought to have been for a boy, this dress is a perfect representation of the style of the period. The fashioning of the jacket, in particular, with the wide pointed lapels, modified leg-of-mutton sleeves, and raised waist at back is very endearing in miniature size. Many women's bodices were made with a faux jacket and vestee effect such as this, but the skirt being attached to the bodice is a modification made for the ease of a child.
