The figures on this vase were inspired by illustrations of historical characters in woodblock-printed plays and novels. Those publications became popular in the seventeenth century and influenced porcelain design and other decorative arts. On view during Rotation 1 of exhibition from June 25, 2016 through January 13, 2017.
