The bust was probably originally placed high in a niche. Its provenance is from the Villa Camerata outside Florence, which had earlier belonged to the Verrazzano, Albizi and Pucci families.

Ceramics made in Asia for export to European markets and sculpture and decorative arts produced in Latin America during this period are also included among these works.
