The figure is based on a print by Johann Esaias Nilson (1721–1788) that was published about 1767. In the original, Pedrolino is depicted as a child, a member of a traveling childrens' troupe. The modeler of this figure has substituted the face of an adult actor.

The fifty thousand objects in the Museum's comprehensive and historically important collection of European sculpture and decorative arts reflect the development of a number of art forms in Western European countries from the early fifteenth through the early twentieth century.
