Henri de Verger, Comte de la Rochejaquelein, 1772–1794, was a famous Royalist soldier and general. The quotation "si j'avance..." was his tallying the call to civilian troops of the Vendée army before their counter-attack on the village of Aubiers, 1791, by General Quétineau.

The fifty thousand objects in the Museum's comprehensive and historically important collection of European sculpture and decorative arts reflect the development of a number of art forms in Western European countries from the early fifteenth through the early twentieth century.
