Shabti of the High Priest of Thoth Djehutyirdis, born of Nepthysiti
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
Djehutyirdis was High Priest of Thoth at Hermopolis, contemporary with Nectanebo I of Dynasty 30. His father, Shepsesirdis, was also a High Priest of this god. The museum has 3 shabtis of Djehytyirdis, 12.183.9, 12.183.10, and 30.8.187. Two show the text encircling the front of the shabti, and the third uses a newer fashion of text organization in a T-shape. These shabtis presumably derive from his tomb at Hermopolis, where the worship of Thoth, god of wisdom and patron of scribes, was centered.
Egyptian Art
An exhibit at Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met collection of ancient Egyptian art consists of approximately 30,000 objects of artistic, historical, and cultural importance, dating from about 300,000 BCE to the 4th century CE. A signifcant percentage of the collection is derived from the Museum's three decades of archaeological work in Egypt, initiated in 1906 in response to increasing interest in the culture of ancient Egypt.
