The series depicts coins issued by European Princes, primarily from Germany and Italy, in the 16th and 17th centuries. This plate shows the front and back of 10 coins. These coins feature portraits European princes or emblems and are linked by a cartouche with the inscription "AR" (argentum).

The Department’s vast collection of works on paper comprises approximately 21,000 drawings, 1.2 million prints, and 12,000 illustrated books created in Europe and the Americas from about 1400 to the present day.
