Shawl
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
The flowers displayed on this shawl have a painterly quality that is particular to 19th century French weaving. The configuration of the design, however, is reminiscent of Russian embroidery. These characteristics make it likely that this shawl was probably woven in France for the Russian market.
