Journeay & Burnham
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Journeay and Burnham was a supplier of all things sartorial. Brooklyn ladies traveled to the shopping district of Atlantic Avenue to purchase everything from corsets and gowns to parasols and hats at this four-story emporium. The integration of textures and ruffles in this example shows off the skill and originality of the Journeay and Burnham milliners, and remains an excellent example of the quality work of Brooklyn designers.
