Mules

Mules

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Mules were a popular form of at-home footwear in the 17th and 18th centuries for both men and women. This fairly conservative example of ladies' mules features a low heel and good quality embroidery in tastefully subdued tones. This style of embroidery is known as Florentine work, a type of flame stitch canvas work with varied stitch lengths.
