An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
Printed dresses like this were very fashionable for the promenade. The pelerine (small cape), a popular accessory in the 1830s, added a versatility to the day dress. It not only completed the look of the dress, but also afforded some warmth outdoors. When removed, the fine details of the pleated and piped bodice were revealed.
