Preliminary Drawings of Demons
Kawanabe Kyōsai 河鍋暁斎
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
These sketches in the distinctive drawing style of Kawanabe Kyōsai appear to be preliminary drawings for an illustrated book. Like the images of dancers in the Met’s collection (37.119.6), they were formerly in the collection of his pupil Mano Kyōtei (Yasokichi, 1874/5–1937).
