Danjūrō V plays the role of Fuwa Banzaemon, who is an enemy of Nagoya Sanza. The two are rivals for the love of the same woman. Shown in a pose (mie) at a climactic point of the play, Danjūrō wears a "thunder" robe featuring a striking pattern of lightning, clouds, and the crest of three nested squares; he holds a straw helmet in his hand. Shunshō emphasizes Danjūrō's distinctive nose.
