Despite the fact that they undoubtedly depict foreigners of Western origin, these officials are dressed in the typical Tang-dynasty Chinese court dress of a long, wide-sleeved tunic over a long gown. Their hats illustrate two varieties of the standard headgear of Tang-dynasty Chinese court officials.
