Wang Tingru

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Wang was a full-fledged scholar in the Hanlin Academy in Peking. His painting style, while influenced by the intellectual rigor of Dong Qichang (1555–1636), took on the appealing attributes of mid-19th century style, evident here in the gold-flecked ground, soft color and free brushwork.
