Basin stand
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
A rare group of Newport furniture—fire screens, tea tables, and stands—features tripod bases and diminutive feet carved like cat’s paws. This basin stand is one of the finest and most ambitious examples. The top rim held the basin; the middle disk, with three cutouts, the soap dishes; and the lowest disk, dished out in the center, the water bottle.
