Jeremiah Theus

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

The sitter is Rebecca Brewton (1737 -1816), the honorable Jacob Mottes, second wife, who he married in 1758. Theus also painted Jacob Motte Jr. in miniature (date and location unknown). Until now, the traditional identification of the sitter had been Elizabeth Martin (1710-1757), Motte's first wife.
