The quilt top is pieced in narrow strips of patterned and plain silks and silk velvets in shades of purple, navy-blue, black, maroon, and brown. There are some lighter-colored silks in the horizontal strips. The back is of a faded pink cotton fabric, and the binding is of black velvet. The piece is unquilted; the layers are tied together at wide intervals with pink cotton thread.
