The top of the quilt is of a white cotton fabric printed with a thin red stripe. The appliquéd flowers are of pink and green cotton. The edge binding is of green plaid cotton. White cotton fabric with a small dark red figure is used for the backing. There are large-scale quilted flower and feather forms in some areas, as well as an overall pattern of diagonal parallel lines.

The American Wing's ever-evolving collection comprises some 20,000 works of art by African American, Euro American, Latin American, and Native American men and women. Ranging from the colonial to early-modern periods, the holdings include painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative arts—including furniture, textiles, ceramics, glass, silver, metalwork, jewelry, basketry, quill and bead embroidery—as well as historical interiors and architectural fragments.
