Counterpane, Bolton type
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
This hand-loom-woven white cotton bed cover was made in one piece. The design is picked out in raised loops of heavy cotton weft threads. The heavy pattern wefts are in a 1:3 proportion to the lighter-weight main wefts. The central design is crossed keys, and there are surrounding borders of tulips, flowers in pots, and zigzags.
