Dwarf tall clock

Samuel Mulliken II

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

Clocks such as these, essentially shelf clocks atop a lower case, are quite rare and are sometimes called dwarf tall clocks. The brass dial is unsigned, but it is very much like a rare signed example by Samuel Mulliken II of Newburyport, Massachusetts that is illustrated in Brooks Palmer’s "A Treasury of American Clocks" (New York, 1977).
