Diana
Olin Levi Warner
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
While bathing in a woodland pool, Diana--who allowed no man to see her nude--senses the young prince Acteon spying on her. As punishment, Diana transforms him into a stag and he is torn to pieces by his own hounds. Warner captured the moment Diana sees the prince and reaches for her arrow. Although her face registers a gravity approaching alarm, her body, still seated from the bath, has yet to fully react.
