New England Glass Company
An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art
To imitate silver in glass, the glassblower poured a solution containing metallic silver into the cavity between the walls of a double walled vessel, and the solution adhered to its interior. The hole at the bottom was sealed to prevent discoloration and, in this case, was marked with the name of the manufactory.
