Clock

Clock

An item at Metropolitan Museum of Art

This clock, with a statuette of George Washington, is similar to 31.41.1 and 25.111. It may have been part of a group of clocks sent from France to a Maryland merchant during the early nineteenth century. The figure of Washington is based on John Trumbull's 1782 painting "Washington Before the Battle of Trenton," now in the Yale University Art Gallery. The Museum owns a reproduction by Trumbull of his earlier painting, 22.45.9.
